Decree a Thing, and It Shall Be Established

In the previous posts in this series, I introduced the biblical process of Activation.  Activation makes what God has appropriated active and operational in your life.  What’s true about the ministry of the Holy Spirit in your life does not automatically become active and operational in you; these truths, graces, and gifts must be activated.

We learned that the four steps of activation are:  HEAR the Word, BELIEVE the Word, SPEAK/CONFESS the Word, and finally TAKE ACTION – fully activating the Word.  The first three steps are the preparation and foundation, and the fourth is the real act of activation.

In the previous post, I introduced the third step:  SPEAKING with the Mouth.  In this post, I will share more on making decrees.  Making decrees is a powerful way to pray!

When you speak a decree, you are boldly speaking an outcome – something you believe God wants to accomplish that lines up with His will.  For example, I can decree, “I will fulfill my God-given destiny.”  Or, “I decree that America will be saved and fulfill her God-given purpose.”

What is a Decree?

decree is an official order issued by a legal authority such as a king or ruler.  The Hebrew word dathmeans a decree, law, or judgment.

A decree is taking God’s words and speaking it out.  We have been given the authority from Jesus to make these decrees into our realms of influence and as we decree, we begin to create the will of God in our life and in the spiritual realm.

You will also decree a thing, and it will be established for you.  Job 22:28

By me kings reign, and rulers decree justice.  Proverbs 8:15

Who is to Speaks Decrees?

The church of the Lord Jesus Christ is Christ’s ekklesia or governing authority on the earth.  The term “ekklesia” has two parts to it:

  1.  To be called out to assembly
  2. To be the governing authority on earth

We have often emphasized the first part and not included the second part.  We are the governing body on earth authorized to speak decrees as we legislate and hold court in the heavenlies.  The church is to rule and reign in heaven and on earth.

A decree is spoken by a king or ruler.  Scripture says that you as a saint are king and a priest.

And have made us kings and priests to our God; and we shall reign on the earth. Rev. 5:10 NKJV (also Rev. 1:6)

But you are a chosen race, a royal priesthood, a holy nation. . . I Pet. 2:9

Jesus answered them, ‘Has it not been written in your Law, “I said, you are gods’?” John 10:34 (from Psalm 82:6)

Those who receive the abundance of grace and the gift of righteousness will reign in life through the One, Jesus Christ.  Rom. 5:17

We all move in the kingly and priestly anointings of the Lord. God is using our prayers and decrees, causing us to partner with Him for His will.  Priests represent the needs of people to God, while kings represent the rule of God

As a priest, you present the needs and requests of people TO HEAVEN through prayers and petitions.  As a king, you impose heaven’s rule TO EARTH through laws, decrees, and righteous judgments.

There are times when we represent Christ in a Kingly, ambassadorial role. In these cases, we do not petition heaven, but command—for that is what the Greek text communicates in the Lord’s Prayer—Christ’s Kingdom to come and His will to be done (see Matthew 6:10).  So while the Lord’s Prayer is primarily a priestly prayer, Matthew 6:10 is a kingly prayer – decreeing that God’s kingdom come and His will be superimposed on the earth as it is fixed in heaven.

Priests request; kings command and decree.

Priests pray; kings rule.

Priests operate in humility, kings in boldness.

We are being prepared now to function as both a priest and a king in the Kingdom of God.

Blessed and holy is the one who has a part in the first resurrection. . .but they will be priests of God and of Christ and will reign with Him for a thousand years.  Rev. 20:6

Receive and walk in your identity now as a priest and a king!

What do Decrees Do?

  1. Decrees create and make changes in the spiritual and physical realms.

Scripture is a powerful force that creates change in both the physical and spiritual world when spoken.  As you decree God’s word and will, the awesome power of the Holy Spirit is released to bring it to pass.

Jesus said the words that we speak are spirit and they are life. The substance of our words goes out into the spiritual realm and starts to creates life.

Remember, Isaiah 55:11 says “So will the words that come out of my mouth not come back empty-handed.  They will do the work I sent them to do, they complete the assignment I gave them.”

2. Decrees release and commission angels.

Bless the Lord, you His angels, mighty in strength, who perform His word, obeying the voice of His word” (Psalm 103:20).

The moment you decree a thing, it will dispatch angels to go and bring fulfillment to that word of God because they obey the voice of HIS word, not your thoughts.  Angels respond to the words of life spoken by us. When we speak God’s words and promises into situations, we give angels something to work with to accomplish God’s will and promises in our life.

Releasing angels creates changes in the spiritual and physical realm to change your life and other situations.

3. Making Decrees with Your Spirit Language

You can make decrees in your native language of English and you can make decrees with you Spiritual language, that is, speaking in tongues.  When we pray in the spirit, we pray priestly as well as governing (kingly) prayers.  The Holy Spirit knows the timing, the positioning of angel armies, and big-picture strategies.  Let the Holy Spirit pray, engage, decree using your Spirit language.

There are times when Holy Spirit wants to bind things we don’t know anything about.  And, there are times Holy Spirit wants to lose things we don’t know anything about.  Also, there are times when Holy Spirit wants to bind something or lose something and He does not want us to know anything about it.  Allow Him to decree and govern how He wants to govern.

The Holy Spirit has given us keys to open and close doors – to allow or don’t allow.  Sometimes we don’t even know where the door is.  This is the time to pray, “Holy Spirit, pray through me to open the door.”

Prayer

Here are some declarations and decrees you can make to get you started:

“I declare that I will walk in my priestly anointing and my kingly anointing.”

“I decree an awakening of my giftings, calling, and assignments in this season.”

“I decree an awakening of my Identity in this season.”

“I decree that I will fulfill my God-given destiny.”

“With my declaration and my decrees, I give angels assignments with my words.”
